An executive at Former Newspaper, who was under investigation for financial issues with Kim Man-bae, a private contractor involved in a large-scale urban development project in South Korea, was recently found dead in the body. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office expressed its condolences.
According to police in Danyang County, North Chungcheong Province, after receiving a missing person report from the family, they began searching for the victim using GPS (Global Positioning System).
As a result, Mr. A (56 years old)'s car was found in the mountains of Yeongchun-myeon at around 7:30 pm on June 29th. Mr. A was found in the body about 50 meters away from the car.
Mr. A was a former executive at the Hankuk Ilbo and was known to have received 100 million won (approximately 11.6 million yen) from Kim Man-bae. The prosecution said that Mr. A had received money from Kim.
They suspect that the police were asked to write positive articles about those involved in the Daeshdo development and to prevent the publication of unfavorable articles.
The prosecution conducted a search of Mr. A's home and other premises on April 18. This month, Mr. A appeared before the prosecution three times. On the 27th, two days before his death,
During the interrogation by the prosecution, Mr. A continued to deny the allegations, claiming that the 100 million won he received from Mr. Kim was simply a loan and had nothing to do with the request for the article.
Meanwhile, Hankook Ilbo fired Mr. A in January of last year. Mr. A was dissatisfied with the decision and filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the dismissal, but recently lost the case.
