In the first half of last year, they not only met their fans through their album and performance activities, but also represented the youth of the whole world in the international community, positioning themselves as the 'best K-pop group' and 'global speakers'. This is the reason why 'SEVENTEEN', which is still taking on new challenges and expanding its activity radius in its 10th year of debut, has been flooded with compliments as 'the standard for growth-oriented artists'.
Entering the 'dream stage'... 380,000 spectators on a super-sized stadium tour.
From March to May, 'SEVENTEEN' held the 'SEVENTEEN TOUR 'FOLLOW' AGAIN' eight times at four super-sized stadiums in South Korea and Japan, attracting a total of 380,000 spectators and once again boasting the dignity of 'performance craftsmen'. They started at the Incheon Asiad Main Stadium, followed by the Seoul World Cup Stadium, Osaka Yanmar Stadium Nagai and Kanagawa Nissan Stadium.
In particular, Kanagawa Nissan Stadium is called the 'dream stage' by many artists, as it is the largest performance venue in Japan with a capacity of over 70,000 people. SEVENTEEN became the second K-pop artist to hold a solo concert here, leaving a significant mark on K-pop history. Seats for the Japan concert were sold by lottery, but it is known that more than 2.8 million applications were received for this purpose, which showed the power of 'SEVENTEEN' tickets.
The influence of 'SEVENTEEN' was also strong in the album market. Their album '17IS RIGHT HERE', which was released on the 29th April, achieved a triple million-seller status, which was unprecedented for a best album, and recorded the highest ranking for a K-pop artist this year in the Billboard Japan '2024 First Half Chart' (counting period 27th November 2023~26 May 2024). The new special unit Jong-han X Won-woong recorded the second highest ranking for a K-pop artist this year. The new special unit JongHan X Wonoo released their first single 'THIS MAN' on 17th June and achieved the highest initial sales volume (album sales in the week immediately after release) of all previous K-pop unit groups.
SEVENTEEN' boosts Europe, adds 'first K-pop artist' record
In June, 'SEVENTEEN' added a series of new records to K-pop history. First, they became the first K-pop artists to be appointed as UNESCO Youth Goodwill Ambassadors. The members attended the appointment ceremony held at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, France, on 26 June, where they revealed that they will donate USD 1 million and launch the Global Youth Grant Scheme in collaboration with UNESCO. This is the first instance of UNESCO appointing goodwill ambassadors for their priority group of youth, which is even more significant.
Another 'first for a K-Pop artist' record was etched at Somerset Wash Farm in the UK. 'SEVENTEEN' became the first K-pop artist to perform on the main stage of 'Glastonbury' here and drew a passionate response. The performance, which consisted of 'MAESTRO', 'Applause', 'HOT', 'God of Music' and 'VERY NICE' and lasted for about an hour, received rave reviews from the local media, including 'SEVENTEEN made history' (NME) and 'Unforgettable scenery' (Evening Standard). It received rave reviews.
Working hard' in the second half of the year... 2024 is the year of 'SEVENTEEN'.
SEVENTEEN will continue to 'work hard' in the second half of the year. They will appear on Fuji TV Japan's 'FNS Song Festival' on the 3rd July and hold the '2024 SVT 8TH FAN MEETING' at the Seoul Kochok Sky Dome on 23rd~24th July. In September, they will headline 'LollapaloozaBerlin' at the Olympia Stadium in Berlin, Germany. A new album and tour have also been announced. Their agency PLEDIS Entertainment said, "'SEVENTEEN' is preparing diverse activities for CARAT (fan club name, the name of their fans) all over the world" and "Please give much attention and love to their activities that will fill this year with the 'Year of SEVENTEEN'".
