Tempus partners with SoftBank, Kakao launches medical services, and other AI healthcare trends - Korean reports
The last week of June saw some major developments in the artificial intelligence (AI) medical and healthcare industry. First, there was a US medical IT company called Medicaid, which uses AI to analyze pathology images and other data and provide diagnostic services to doctors.
Startup Tempus AI will establish a joint venture with SoftBank Group in the healthcare field.
The joint venture will have capital of 30 billion yen, with each company contributing half. The number of directors will be equal from both companies.
The system will consist of a database of patient and pathology data collected from hospitals across Japan by the end of the year, which will be anonymized and analyzed. SoftBank plans to use this database to develop a database of future clinical trials in Japan.
The company aims to launch the service within one to two years. Meanwhile, Kakao Healthcare, which operates the healthcare business, is a joint venture between its parent company, IT company Kakao, and Bundang Seoul National University Hospital.
The consortium has become the lead company for the ICT Industry Promotion Agency's medical service support project using giant AI. The project uses giant AI to provide individual case analysis to support pediatric medical treatment.
The company plans to invest 32 billion won (approximately 3.7272 billion yen) by 2027 to develop and demonstrate services such as drug analysis and prescription support.

The company will utilize the know-how it has accumulated through "KoGPT2.0," a large-scale language model (LLM) that Kakao plans to release later this year.
