Carbon-neutral chemical process demonstration center opens in South Korea, capable of treating 150 kilograms of CO2 per day
In March, the Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology opened the Carbon Neutral Chemical Process Demonstration Center in the Yeosu Future Innovation District to commercialize chemical technologies that can achieve carbon neutrality.
The center will be a base for the production and testing of materials for catalysts and separations on a demonstration scale, and will support industry through research. Currently, the center has 12 demonstration facilities and utilities.
The facility is equipped with 5 types of testing equipment and 7 types of analytical equipment, for a total of 24 types. It has been providing analytical services to companies since April, but is also working on an integrated monitoring and operation system to support large-scale demonstrations and individual equipment.
The center is currently in the trial run stage. It plans to research the use of methane, a greenhouse gas, to convert it into substances such as ethylene and propylene, which are essential for the petrochemical industry.
The institute is also currently building a Carbon Dioxide Capture and Utilization (CCU) Demonstration Support Center, which is scheduled for completion in December 2024. This will make it a Carbon Neutral Center.
A CO2 pollutant conversion facility capable of processing a total of 150 kilograms of CO2 per day, a production facility for producing 50 kilograms of liquid chemicals per day converted from CO2 based on synthetic fuels, and
The facility will be equipped with a high-pressure liquid compound manufacturing facility capable of processing 23 kilograms of CO2 per unit. The institute also plans to build a demonstration infrastructure for manufacturing eco-friendly compounds from CO2 in the future.
