BLACKPINK's LISA's new song ”ROCKSTAR” has been met with mixed reviews but is a big hit in Thailand... The location where the music video was shot has become a tourist attraction

LISA of girl group BLACKPINK's new song, her first solo song since establishing her own private label, has been receiving mixed reactions, but it is also gaining explosive popularity in Thailand.

　On 28th of last month, LISA of BLACKPINK released her new single 'ROCKSTAR', marking the start of her new career as a global pop artist. This new song was LISA's first release since establishing her own personal label 'LALISA', and was highly anticipated as LISA's solo debut.

　LISA underwent a bold transformation through this 'ROCKSTAR'. Unlike her previous solo album 'LALISA' with YG Entertainment, she challenged herself with extreme styling, using tease jewellery, chains and earrings. However, perhaps her boldness proved to be a detriment, as there were mixed opinions in the country over LISA's new music. Some said it was music with a global perspective and that they did not see the appeal of K-pop.

　On the other hand, the song performed well in LISA's home country of Thailand, where LISA's 'ROCKSTAR' reached number one on the Spotify Daily Top Songs Global Chart and the iTunes Top Songs Chart in Thailand after its release.

　The music video for 'ROCKSTAR' is also set in Thailand, and LISA made headlines when she paid shops in the area 20,000 baht (about £87,000) to film in a Thai night market and asked them to help her film it.

　The ripple effect of the new song 'ROCKSTAR' is significant because LISA has been surveyed as the most influential person in Thailand, and according to the Bangkok Post and other local media on 1 January, the Tourism Authority of Thailand is planning to set up a walking tour route on Yawarat Road in Bangkok, where the music video was shot. It is said to be in the works.

　Yawarat, Bangkok's Chinatown, is currently bustling with Thai fans and tourists, and the Government has been inspecting hotels and restaurants in the area and cracking down on illegal parking and rip-off charges in an effort to make the area a world-class attraction. Plans have also been announced for the establishment of a pedestrian-only road with no vehicular traffic, the installation of additional traffic signals and the construction of more public toilets.

　Despite this somewhat lackluster performance in South Korea, expectations are high for LISA's future activities as they have established a global presence, debuting at number 8 on the Spotify charts not only in Thailand but also in the USA.
