Attorney Lee Byung-cheol said, "The Minister and Vice Minister of Education are abusing their authority ahead of the evaluation of medical education courses at medical universities, which have increased their admission quotas by more than 10%.
"The Higher Education Act and other laws stipulate the independence of the Medical Education Curriculum Evaluation Agency's decision-making and the principle of non-interference by the Ministry of Education," he said.
"The pre-screening of the medical education curriculum is unconstitutional because it violates the constitutional rights of education, expertise, and political neutrality," he said.
"By making the Medical Education Curriculum Evaluation Agency carry out work that it is not legally obligated to do, the government has committed the crime of abuse of authority and obstruction of the exercise of rights under Article 123 of the Criminal Code," the ministry said.
Meanwhile, the Medical Education Curriculum Assessment Center is an organization recognized by the Ministry of Education that evaluates and certifies the educational processes of medical universities.
