Opposition camp: ”The impeachment train has picked up pace”...Single voice at pan-national rally in Gwanghwamun (South Korea)
On the 13th, the opposition camp, including the Democratic Party, participated in a national conference to denounce President Yoon Seok-yeol's exercise of his right to request a reconsideration (veto) on the Special Prosecutor's Bill for Private First Class Choi, and
The opposition party, together with civil society groups, held a "National Conference to Reject the Veto" at Gwanghwamun in Seoul that afternoon to discuss the truth behind the allegations of external pressure in the investigation into the Choi case.
While urging for an investigation, they also voiced their support for President Yoon. Park Chan-dae, acting leader and floor leader of the Democratic Party of Japan, said at the event, "President Yoon should not be a scapegoat for Special Agent Choi.
"He refused without even pretending to be worried about the prosecution. The president's veto is an admission that he is the culprit," he said.
"It is not the Special Prosecutor's Law that has led to this, but the order of the people, who are the masters of the Republic of Korea," he said. At the event, there were also allusions to the possibility of impeaching President Yoon.
Acting President Park said, "A president who does not carry out the orders of the people is not fit to be president. A president who goes against the people cannot be a president.
"The impeachment train has accelerated, considering that the special prosecutor bill was once again proposed in the National Assembly, and the veto was exercised," said Hwang Un-ha, floor leader of the Fatherland Reform Party.
"It feels like the hardships you're facing on the hot asphalt will end before the asphalt cools," said Kim Jae Young, standing leader of the Progressive Party.
"This is a declaration by President Yoon that he has no intention of changing the wrong tone of national politics. He is armed with unfounded confidence that words like impeachment and early presidential elections will end up being empty prayers," he said.
Also attending the event was Lee Jae-myung, who is seeking re-election as head of the Democratic Party. Candidate Lee held a poster bearing the words, "Strongly condemn the rejection of the Special Prosecutor's Law for Private Choi."
Holding placards, they watched the participants' speeches and performances.
