Daegu Mayor raises serious issue over suspicion of large-scale manipulation of public opinion (South Korea)
Hong Jun-pyo, mayor of Daegu, South Korea, made a significant statement amid growing allegations of political manipulation of public opinion in South Korea.
Han Dong-hoon, former Minister of Justice and the candidate for the ruling People Power Party's leadership, posted an online post.
Evidence suggesting public opinion manipulation on the internet was presented by Yang Moon-seok, a lawmaker from the main opposition Democratic Party. Yang said he was involved in a "comment team" allegedly run by Minister of Justice Han.
Mayor Hong said on his Facebook page that if the allegations are true, they will be comparable to the Druking incident that occurred in the past.
Mayor Hong emphasized that such actions are a serious matter that cannot be overlooked, and said, "We must not only punish the president of our own party, but also the key figures of the ruling party.
However, if there are forces within the party that curse people with unspeakable abusive language, that deserves to be executed (the ultimate punishment in the Joseon era)," he said.
Mayor Hong said, "Whether they are in the ruling or opposition party, these forces that manipulate public opinion must be completely removed from the political world.
A special prosecutor should be appointed to ensure that the forces manipulating public opinion can never set foot on this land again."
