Dozens of high school students smoking in school toilets (South Korea)
Recently, a video was released showing dozens of students smoking in a bathroom at a private high school in Daegu, sparking controversy.
The video shows about 20 male students gathering in the toilet to smoke.
The video shows students chatting nonchalantly and even spitting on the floor. The toilet is filled with smoke. This footage was taken last year in a toilet at a private boys' high school in Daegu.
The students who were arrested were given counseling and volunteer work in August last year in accordance with the school's rules. According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of teens who used both regular and e-cigarettes last year was 10.
The survey found that 6.6% of male students and 3.5% of female students smoke at least once. This is a 0.7% decrease for males compared to 2022, while the rate for females was roughly the same. The smoking rate for regular cigarettes was 5.6% for males and 3.5% for females.
The use of liquid-based e-cigarettes was 3.8% for boys and 2.4% for girls, while the use of rolled-cigarettes was 2.7% for boys and 1.4% for girls.
