In South Korea, the recent heavy rains have caused crops to be flooded in an area equivalent to 1,900 soccer fields. On the 20th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs stated, "The rains that fell from the 16th to the 18th of this month have caused crops to be flooded.
The flooded area was calculated to be 1,353.7 hectares as of 6 p.m. on the 19th. In addition, more than 800,000 livestock have died due to the rains this month.
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, Song Mi-ryon said, "While damage caused by the heavy rain continues, it is expected that up to 100mm of rain will fall nationwide until the end of this week.
"As this is a serious problem, we would like farmers and related organizations to make efforts to prevent secondary damage, such as inspecting wastewater equipment and vulnerable facilities and spraying pest control chemicals," he said.
