The Prosecutor General was not aware of the closed-door interrogation of Kim Kun-hee's wife... ”Prosecutor General Lee is struggling” - South Korea
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office, which questioned Mrs. Kim Gun-Hee in private at a third location instead of at the prosecutor's office yesterday (20th), reported the facts of Mrs. Kim's questioning in advance to the Prosecutor General.
In a phone interview with Herald Business on the 21st, a source from the Supreme Prosecutors' Office said, "Regarding the investigation process of Mrs. Kim, not only Prosecutor General Lee Won-seok but also the Supreme Prosecutors' Office did not take any action.
"No senior officials at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office were informed of this. We were notified after the fact by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office once the investigation was over," the agency said.
He added, "Prosecutor General Lee is deeply concerned about this situation."
This is because the prosecutor general was excluded from the investigation report process. This is a case of so-called "passing the prosecutor general" and is likely to cause controversy. Prosecutor General Lee has repeatedly stated his belief that "there are no sacred cows" regarding the investigation into Kim's wife.
Prior to this, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office announced on the 21st that they had questioned Mrs. Kim for around 12 hours, from 1:30 pm yesterday to 1:20 am today, at the Government Security Complex.
When asked why they conducted the interrogation at a third location, prosecutors said, "After discussions, it was decided for security and safety reasons."
