Trot singer accused of drunk driving hit-and-run donates 15 million won while under investigation... Why? = Korea
Trot singer Kim Ho-jun (33), who is currently undergoing detention and trial on suspicion of a drunk driving hit-and-run, has donated 15 million won (approximately 1.7 million yen) to a homeless shelter while under investigation.
According to the Seoul Station homeless shelter and other sources, Kim Ho-jun donated 15 million won (approximately 1.7 million yen) to the shelter in May.
At the time, Kim Ho-Jun had planned to volunteer to provide meals to 250 homeless people at the facility, but was unable to do so due to a drunk driving accident.
A facility official said, "Since Kim Ho-jun was under investigation, we were not able to contact him regarding his volunteer work, but suddenly, the management office
"The company sent 15 million won (approximately 1.7 million yen)," and also conveyed an apology message saying, "I want to volunteer, but I'm sorry I can't."
Prior to this, Kim Ho-jun was arrested for driving a car while drunk on a road in Apgujeong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul at around 11:40 pm on May 9th.
He crossed the center line, collided with a taxi coming from the opposite lane, and fled the scene. During this process, he urged his manager to turn himself in, bought alcohol at a convenience store, and drank it, and the president of the management company
It was revealed that he had damaged the memory card of the vehicle's dashcam. However, although he stubbornly denied the allegations of drunk driving, he admitted to the crime 10 days after the accident.
However, the prosecution believes that it is difficult to determine Kim Ho-Jun's exact alcohol intake at the time of the accident using the Widmark method, which calculates blood alcohol concentration, and therefore suspects him of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Regarding this, Kim Ho-Jun was charged with violating the law on aggravated punishment of specific crimes (dangerous driving causing injury and fleeing causing injury), not taking measures after an accident under the Road Traffic Act, and instructing a criminal to escape.
At the first hearing on the 10th of this month, Kim Ho-Jun's side did not reveal their position on the charges, citing the delay in viewing copies, and said they would not release the evidence at the next hearing.
The president and manager of the management company who were also indicted admitted to all the charges.
Kim Hong-jun's second trial will begin at 10 a.m. on the 19th of next month.
