Actor Jung Woo Sung resigns as UN refugee agency goodwill ambassador after nine years of support activities, ”confused by political attacks”

Actor Jung Woo Sung recently resigned as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
Jung Woo Sung resigned as ambassador. This is the first time in nine years that he has served as a goodwill ambassador since 2015. On the 15th, Jung Woo Sung told the media, "My image was too closely linked to the UN Refugee Agency's representative office in Korea.
"I was worried that the organization and I were constantly being attacked politically, with people saying things like, 'Jung Woo Sung is doing this job for political reasons,'" he said.
"The actor Jung Woo Sung visits refugee camps around the world every year, and it has become a bad situation for both me and the organization," he said.
"Watching him talk about refugees, the vague perception and understanding of refugees in Korean society seemed to have become clear," he said. "The refugee issue is something we must look into for the future of humanity."
"The refugee problem is ultimately caused by conflict, violence and war," he continued, "Through refugees, we can see how cruel war is and how much it devastates people's lives."
"This will allow people to understand the value of peace and to live their lives in harmony," said Jung Woo Sung, who began his refugee support work in 2014 as an honorary ambassador for the United Nations refugee agency.
From the following year, he served as a Goodwill Ambassador for nine years, visiting major refugee-producing countries such as South Sudan, Lebanon, the Rohingya, Venezuela, and Poland.
He visited the region and helped refugees. During the 2018 Jeju Yemeni refugee crisis, he continued to make policy statements and steadily promoted interest in and support for refugees.
In 2019, she published a collection of essays titled "If Only You Could See What I See," which records her five years of refugee-related activities.
