South Korean prosecutors seek four-year prison sentence for actor Yu A In for habitual illegal drug use
Prosecutors have sought a four-year prison sentence for actress Yu A In, who is accused of habitually using illegal drugs such as propofol and marijuana.
On the 24th, the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Ji Gwi-young) indicted the suspects on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Law.
The court held a sentencing hearing for defendant Yu A In, who was indicted on charges of using medical propofol and other drugs 181 times between September 2020 and March 2022.
He is also suspected of using a variety of other illegal drugs, including marijuana, midazolam, ketamine, and remimazolam, and illegally distributing over 1,100 sleeping pills under other people's names.
The allegations of receiving prescriptions on behalf of others and smoking marijuana in the United States and encouraging others to smoke it were also added. Yu A In had previously admitted to smoking marijuana and using propofol, but
She has denied the allegations of incitement to marijuana smoking, incitement to destruction of evidence, aiding in violation of the Narcotics Control Law, and fleeing overseas.
It was further confirmed that the accused forced his companion to smoke marijuana in the United States. Defendant Choi, an acquaintance of defendant Yu A In, who was tried alongside him, smoked marijuana and helped his accomplice flee overseas to cover up the crime.
At the trial on the same day, the prosecution sought a four-year prison sentence and a 2 million won (about 220,000 yen) fine for Yu A In and a four-year prison sentence for Choi.
The prosecution said the two men committed crimes of a bad nature, saying, "They used their financial resources to use illegal drugs overseas where investigative authorities cannot reach, and they used their social influence to try to silence witnesses. They also fled overseas.
"There are also suspicions that they have disregarded and obstructed the Korean judicial system, such as by forcing the prosecution to release the accused," he said. Meanwhile, the prosecution has twice applied for arrest warrants for Yu A In and Choi in court, once in May and once in September of last year.
However, all charges were dismissed and the two were given an indictment without detention.
