STUDIO Dragon has teamed up with K-content specialist brand WITHMUU and Japanese interactive media mix IMX to hold the ‘Queen of Tears’ pop-up store at the Tokyo Tower Records Shibuya shop from 12th to 28th July. Even while the store was operating with a daily admission limit of 800 visitors to prevent safety accidents, a cumulative total of more than 10,000 visitors visited the pop-up store as of the 25th July.
The Tokyo pop-up store has prepared various products related to the Queen of Tears, including clear files, acrylic key rings, key holders, postcard sets and tote bags, and some of the products, such as clear files and acrylic key rings, have gained great popularity, selling out every day. Also on display were accessories used in the actual filming of the drama, such as Hyun-woo's hair dryer that dried Hae-in's hair in Yeontri, the MP3 with which Hyun-woo and Hae-in confirmed their fates, and a recording pen presented by Chairman Hong Man-dae to Hae-in to mark his appointment as president.
An official at the Tokyo Tower Records Shibuya shop, which hosted the pop-up store, commented "The response has been even greater than initially expected. We are experiencing that there are many dedicated fans of ‘Queen of Tears’ as the admission tickets were sold out immediately." They continued, "As Korean dramas are gaining great popularity in Japan, we hope to hold K-drama pop-up stores more frequently in the future."
Studio Dragon plans to open additional pop-up stores for Queen of Tears in three Japanese cities from August to October, including Osaka, Nagoya and Fukuoka. As well as that, they will also hold a pop-up store in Manila, Philippines in August to meet local fans.
