North Korean ”trash balloon” falls, fire breaks out at multi-family home in South Korea

A fire broke out at a multi-family home in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, after the detonation device of a balloon released by North Korea carrying garbage and other debris caught fire.
According to South Korean fire authorities on the 25th, a storm blew by North Korea onto the roof of a multi-family home in Naeyu-dong, Goyang City at around 2:35 p.m.
The fire started when the boat fell and caught fire. Residents reported that a balloon had burst and sparks had been sent out. Fire department officials deployed 11 fire equipment and 28 personnel and put out the fire in about 25 minutes.
Although the paper hanging from the boat caught fire and the roof of the boat was scorched, there was no other damage to property or loss of life. Traces of the detonation device burning along with the balloon were found at the scene.
The device was attached to a string that connected the balloon to a garbage bag, and was designed to burst the balloon after a certain amount of time had passed. The detonation of the device set fire to the paper and other items in the garbage bag, according to a police report.
The exact cause of the fire is being investigated by the military, who have taken possession of the balloon's remains.
