Macau welcomes 968,000 group tourists in first half of 2019, 2.7 times more than in the same period last year: Chinese media

According to data released by the Macau Government Statistics and Census Bureau on the 29th, the number of group tourists who entered Macau in the first half of this year was 968,000 (total number, same below), an increase of 2.7 times compared to the same period last year.
Of these, 851,000 were group tourists from mainland China and 102,000 were group tourists from overseas. During the same period, the number of accommodation facilities offering accommodation services to the general public increased from the same period last year.
The number of hotels increased by 12, bringing the total to 143. The number of guest rooms increased by 9.1% year-on-year to 47,000. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms increased by 6.1 points year-on-year to 84%. Of these, 85% were five-star hotels.
Hotel rooms in Macau rose 2.1 percentage points to 85.8%, while four-star hotels increased 4.5 percentage points to 80.4%. According to the Bureau, the number of overnight guests in Macau rose 20.4% year-on-year to 7.277 million in the first half of the year.
This represents a 5.3% increase compared to the same period in 2019, before the COVID-19 virus outbreak.
The number of guests from overseas was 524,000. In particular, the number of Korean tourists is increasing rapidly, increasing 3.7 times to 149,000.
