Slashed to death with a Japanese sword by a fellow apartment resident, ”abnormal behavior” = Korea
In Seoul, South Korea, the suspect in the so-called "Japanese sword murder case," who stabbed a fellow apartment resident to death with a Japanese sword, is said to have exhibited unusual behavior, such as suggesting to his neighbors that they "fight with swords."
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Station on the 30th, the murder suspect, Mr. A (37), was in front of the entrance to an apartment building in Eunpyeong-gu at around 11:30 pm the previous day.
A is suspected of killing another resident of the apartment building, Mr. B (43), by swinging a Japanese sword about 80 cm long. Mr. A fled immediately after the crime, but was arrested by the police just over an hour after the incident.
It was determined that Mr. A knew the victim, but they were not acquaintances. The victim, Mr. B, had come out of his apartment to smoke a cigarette when he encountered the incident. Mr. B reported the incident to the police.
He was transferred to a hospital by a rescue team that was dispatched following the incident, but died during the transfer. Mr. B was employed at a company in Seoul and was a father of two children.
Mr. A had previously displayed abnormal behavior, such as possessing a sword and talking about fighting with it.
He is said to have suggested to the children, "Let's play fight." During the police investigation, Mr. A was found to have said that he was not taking any medication.
Meanwhile, it was confirmed that Mr. A was issued a gun and sword possession permit by the local police station earlier this year.
The Firearms and Swords Possession Control Law provides that "those who are mentally or physically incapacitated, those addicted to narcotics, marijuana, psychotropic drugs or alcohol, those with mental illness or epilepsy, and those who have received a prison sentence of imprisonment or more and have been sentenced to five years after the completion of the sentence,
The law stipulates that those who are ineligible to possess swords include those who have not passed the mandatory retirement age.
