The film "Because I Hate Korea" (director: Jang Geon-jae), scheduled for release on August 28th, will form a special empathy with those who were born and live in Korea.
The movie "Because I Hate Korea" is about a woman in her late twenties, Ge Na (played by Ko A Sung), who one day suddenly decides to leave her job, family and lover behind and go to a new place alone in search of her own happiness.
The film is based on the novel of the same name by author Jang Kang-myung, and is written and directed by director Jang Kun-jae of "One Summer's Fantasy."
Ko A Sung, a talented actor, will portray Gena, a man who takes the initiative in his life, while Joo Jong Hyuk and Kim Woo Kyung will portray another type of young person.
Gena, the protagonist of "Because I Hate Korea," is an ordinary woman in her late 20s. She has a job after a tough time finding one, a longtime boyfriend named Jimyung who wants to marry her, and she has withdrawn her savings and moved into an apartment.
He decided to leave Korea, leaving his parents behind. To summarize why he was leaving Korea, he said, "I hate Korea," and "I can't live here."
For Ge Na, who says, "I want to be happy, but I can't be happy here," she hates Korea. Many of the young people in the film feel anxious about the future.
Through Na, the film depicts the plight of young people in their 20s and 30s who are living in today's Korea, where they have no choice but to endure, rather than being unable to do so.
The reality and various worries of young people, which are often omitted, are depicted as they are, and the audience feels as if they are watching their own story, rather than watching Gena experience some fateful event.
In particular, Gena's way of looking for true happiness in "Because I Hate Korea" makes you think about your own path every time you come to a crossroads.
This is the way the younger generation is facing life, and this film gives them courage, encouragement and hope.
The provocative title, which refers to the specific country of Korea, is a phrase that universally expresses the difficulties faced by the younger generation.
Through the story of the protagonist, Gena, the film is a place for young people to understand their troubles and for other generations to learn about their past passions and what true happiness is.
Director Jang Geon-jae said, "I read the novel the year it was published. It was a novel written in the middle of a hot and turbulent time in Korean society. I may not be like Gena, but I also
"I felt there were parts of the story I could relate to, so I wanted to portray it," he said, explaining why he made the film. The film will be released in theaters in Korea on August 28.
