The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries issued a red tide warning at 2 p.m. on the 2nd. The warning was issued this week after the National Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology announced on the 28th of last month that red tide had appeared in Cheonsuman Bay, South Chungcheong Province.
The measure comes after the issuance of a red tide warning for five sea areas, including Goheung County, South Jeolla Province, on the same day, following the issuance of a red tide warning.
According to the National Fisheries Research and Development Institute, after the rainy season, a large amount of nutrients flow into the sea and southern winds cause red tide plankton to accumulate in the sea, and the surrounding area is affected by the red tide.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries has launched a red tide countermeasures comprehensive situation room in response to the issuance of the red tide warning, and is working with local governments to prevent and control red tides and to establish a red tide prevention and prevention system.
The National Institute of Fisheries Science and Technology and local governments will monitor the surrounding sea areas where harmful red tides have occurred daily and analyze the occurrence and spread of red tides.
The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries will utilize the red tide information system to quickly communicate red tide forecast information and spread predictions to related organizations and fisheries-related parties, and will support efficient removal work and management of aquaculture facilities.
Anyone can report the occurrence of red tides through a mobile web service. Minister of Oceans and Fisheries Kang Do-hyun said, "On the 31st of last month, the high water temperature crisis warning was raised to 'serious' status.
"We have issued a warning to the public, and the red tide crisis warning has been raised to the 'caution' stage, and we are monitoring the trends of high water temperatures and red tide occurrence in real time," he said. "Even for farmed fish, we are adjusting the amount of feed supplied and the breeding density.
"We ask that you actively participate in preventing damage to fisheries, including by making adjustments."
