李在明氏「韓国政府による北への “水害支援”提案を歓迎」…「平和回復の第一歩」
Lee Jae-myung: ”We welcome the South Korean government's proposal to provide flood relief to the North”... ”The first step to restoring peace”
Lee Jae-myung, former leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Korea, said he "welcomes the government's proposal" to provide assistance for the recovery efforts following the flooding in North Korea.
On the 2nd, Lee wrote on Facebook, "The government has proposed humanitarian assistance for the flood damage in North Korea. Above all, the government's proposal to ease the completely stagnant relationship between North and South Korea is a great opportunity to resolve the issue."
"We welcome this proposal," he wrote, adding, "Restoring the severed dialogue and communication channels between the North and South will be the first step toward restoring peace."
He continued, "Peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula are immutable values," and "This incident has prompted the government to consider military conflict.
"We must proactively take steps to manage the crisis to avoid this," he said. He also called on the North Korean authorities to "avoid using military provocations."
No problem can be solved by a "strong vs strong" confrontation.
"We hope that they will accept international assistance and come to the table for dialogue and diplomacy."
