According to the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, close to 400 people were diagnosed with heatstroke on weekdays last week alone.
The number of heat stroke patients reported by emergency medical centers reached 386. The number of heat stroke patients in a single day exceeded 100 for the first time, and rose sharply to 154 on the 3rd of the weekend.
From May 20th to August 3rd of this year, when the monitoring system began operation, a total of 1,546 cases of heatstroke occurred nationwide.
Eleven people are believed to have died from heatstroke.
Of the 1,546 total cases of heatstroke up until the previous day, 1,204 were men, accounting for 77.9% of the total, and 342 were women, accounting for 22.1%.
By age, the largest group was those in their 50s with 294 people (19.0%), followed by those in their 60s with 263 people (17.0%).
219 people (14.2%) were in their 40s, and 195 people (12.6%) were in their 30s. 31.4% (485 people) of heat stroke patients were elderly people aged 65 or older.
The Meteorological Agency predicts that it will remain as humid as it is now for at least 10 days. Currently, a double high pressure system consisting of the Tibetan high pressure system and the North Pacific high pressure system is covering the Korean Peninsula like a blanket, and the atmosphere is lowering.
The hot air is said to have filled all floors, from the top to the bottom. In response, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has called for people to refrain from outdoor activities during hot hours.
If the patient is unconscious, call 119 immediately to request help from an ambulance and transport them to a hospital.
