<Interview> Actor Um Tae Goo, who changed his image in ”My Girlfriend Will Play With Me,” talks about his first romantic comedy and his future plans

Actor Um Tae Goo spoke about taking on a romantic comedy role during an interview held at a cafe in Gangnam-gu, Seoul to celebrate the end of the JTBC TV series "A Girl Who Will Play With You."
"She Who Plays With Me" is a TV series about a romance filled with reversals, featuring Ji-hwan (played by Um Tae Goo), who has cleared up his dark past, and Eun-ah (played by Han Sun-ah), a "mini-sister" who plays with children.
Um Tae Goo, who took on the role of Ji Hwan in his first romantic comedy role, said, "It wasn't easy. I had to work a lot harder than usual on set, and there were a lot of lines, so it wasn't easy to remember them."
"I had to do something embarrassing, and I didn't want it to take longer because of me, so I tried to get it done somehow," she said.
Um Tae Goo said that he put his heart and soul into the project, wanting to do well.
After a string of dark films like "ME~", "Paradise Night" and "Hometown: Erased Past", I wanted to see something brighter.
I wanted to try something new, and then the script for "My Girlfriend Will Play With Me" came. The script was so harmless and interesting that I wanted to try it. I was so touched by the cuteness I felt when I first read the script.
"I wanted to express it well," he said. In "My Girlfriend Will Play With You," viewers were able to see a side of Um Tae Goo that they had never seen before. The image of Um Tae Goo falling in love captivated the viewers.
His chemistry with Han Sun Ah was also well received. Um Tae Goo said about working with Han Sun Ah for the first time since "Promised Land: Save Me", "The biggest thing that lasted for me was that there was no awkwardness in the beginning and we were able to work comfortably together.
It was the same in "Promised Land: Save Me," and he's a very good actor, so we were able to work well together."
He continued, "She's an actress with amazing concentration and quick thinking. When I get lost, I can't find what I'm looking for and I have to try again and again, but...
In the case of Han Sun Ah, it only took one or two takes. I thought it was amazing." He also commented on the kissing scene, saying, "I was very nervous, but I thought the other person might be nervous too, so I
"I had to pretend not to notice, and it was embarrassing," he said. Um Tae Goo said that he had several moments of "realization" while filming this movie, but he still managed to see a new side of himself through this work.
"I wanted to express every moment of every work I did seriously, and this time was no exception. While reading the script, I kept thinking, 'Why is this person saying this?'" he explained.
Furthermore, Um Tae Goo said about his desire for romance, "I'm not sure, but I do want to try a romantic comedy again. Anything is fine, but since I tried a romantic comedy this time, I'm not sure about the romance.
"I would also like to try a romantic film. The first thing that comes to mind is 'Christmas in August,' and I would like to try a gentle romance like that."
Finally, "I would like to greet you again with another character. If I could,
I'll do my best to be like a 'girlfriend who plays with me,'" she said with a smile.
