Another fire in an electric car... Following Mercedes, now Kia = Korea

As concerns over the safety of electric vehicle batteries grow following a fire in an electric vehicle in Incheon, a parked vehicle also caught fire in Geumsan, Chungcheongnam-do.
A fire broke out in an electric car. According to police and fire authorities on the 6th, a resident reported a fire in a car parked on the first floor of a parking tower in Geumsan County at around 5 a.m. today, and fire engines were dispatched.
Fire officials said they deployed 12 fire engines and other equipment and 35 personnel, and the fire was put out in 1 hour and 37 minutes. No casualties were reported.
At the time, firefighters took measures to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring cars and shut down the power supply while they were extinguishing the fire.
After the car was removed from the parking tower, the fire was reportedly completely extinguished. According to the police, the car was a Kia EV6 model, and the driver of the leased car, Mr. A (50), was killed.
The driver, who was driving the car, said, "I parked it around 7 p.m. yesterday and connected it to a charger." Police and fire authorities suspect that the fire was caused by a battery problem and plan to conduct a joint investigation today.
Prior to this, at around 6:15 a.m. on the 1st, a fire believed to have been caused by an electric vehicle broke out in the parking lot on the first basement floor of an apartment building in Cheongna-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon.
Fire officials managed to put out the fire after 8 hours and 20 minutes. The scene was a pandemonium, and it was estimated that about 70 cars in the parking lot were damaged.
CCTV footage from the scene showed smoke rising from the back of a white Mercedes Benz in the underground car park, followed by an explosion and flames.
The video showed the Benz's roof rising, which was shocking. The owner of the Benz claims that he has never driven the car since parking it three days ago, and police are focusing on determining the cause of the fire.
