The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) will offer a $1 million reward to a whistleblower who provides information to assist in enforcement actions related to the cryptocurrency market.
According to Cointelegraph on the 8th (local time), the CFTC announced through a public notice that it had investigated digital asset evasion with the help of an anonymous whistleblower who provided information on inappropriate transactions.
The company said it had taken enforcement action against a company related to the cryptocurrency firm, but did not say which company was subject to the action.
"Identifying illegal activity in digital asset markets is a primary task for the CFTC," said Ian McGinley, Director of the CFTC's Enforcement Division.
"This is a critical priority, especially as ordinary Americans become increasingly victims of digital asset scams."
He also said, "Digital asset-related cases made up nearly 50% of the CFTC's case list last year, and 100 cases were filed that year."
"Most of the whistleblower reports submitted were related to digital assets," the CFTC added. A total of six applicants submitted information related to digital asset enforcement cases, according to the CFTC.
Of the 11, 100 people who tried to provide information to the company, only one provided information that was specific, reliable and timely enough to receive a portion of the fine.
They can receive a cash reward of 10% to 30% of the fine.
