A person who was in the convenience store's refrigerator suddenly collapsed. The person who collapsed was a person in his 40s who was living alone and was receiving basic living allowance. Security camera footage from the convenience store showed that Mr. A had taken an Eon drink from the refrigerator.
While he was taking it out, he suddenly stumbled and fell to the floor. Mr. A tried to get up, but he seemed to have no strength and remained motionless.
Rescue workers who responded to the call arrived at the convenience store at around 11:03 a.m. and measured Mr. A's body temperature, which was already approaching 40 degrees.
At the time, Mr. A requested, "My house is right in front. Please take me to my house." However, the rescue team could not take Mr. A because there was garbage piled up at the entrance to his house and it was not cool inside.
They decided that Mr. A should not be left alone at home and decided to transport him to a hospital. The rescue team put Mr. A in an ambulance and inquired about transporting him to 14 hospitals, but received repeated replies that they could not accept him.
Mr. A was finally taken to a general hospital in Jung-gu, Seoul at 12:37 p.m., one hour and 34 minutes after he collapsed, but he eventually passed away.
Mr. A was a recipient of basic living benefits and had no time to look after his own health, so he relied on alcohol to get by.
