A study has found that the failure rate of meme coin projects this year is 97%. On the 18th (local time), CryptoPotato released a Chainplay report.
Citing the report, it was found that an average of 2020 meme coin projects disappeared each month, with the failure rate of meme coins this year being 97%.
According to Chainplay, the average lifespan of a meme coin is just one year, while a typical cryptocurrency project lasts around three years.
It was also analyzed that the probability of meme coins disappearing varies among different blockchain platforms. The Base platform had a probability of 66.91%.
Solana had the highest failure rate at 54.03%, followed by Ethereum at 36.59%.
Additionally, meme coins are often associated with malicious activity, with 55.2
Over 4% of meme coins were classified as malicious projects. However, despite the high failure rate, about 60% of new investors believe that meme coins are essential to their portfolio.
According to the survey, about 60% of investors who have invested in the meme coin asset class consider them a short-term investment.
The survey found that roughly two-thirds of crypto investors have previously invested in meme coins.
