Yoon Sang Hyun, a member of the People Power Party and a member of the South Korean National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, filed a lawsuit against China's General Administration of Customs on the 20th.
According to an analysis of statistical data for the first half of this year, "North Korea's imports from China have continued to increase since the border closure was lifted following the COVID-19 virus outbreak," the report said.
In the case of watches mainly used by the General Secretary of Korea for "gift governance," the total import amount by June this year was 10.72 million dollars (approximately 1.5778 billion yen), which is already the amount of imports for the entire previous fiscal year.
Yoon said that when comparing the import amount for 2021, the COVID-19 lockdown period, with the amount tallied for the six months up to June this year,
Yoon said, "Imports of alcohol, cosmetics and watches have increased significantly, but this is because Kim has been buying up luxury goods.
"It is evidence that the money is being used for 'gift governance' by the party, military and government," he said. "It is estimated that a considerable amount of luxury goods are being imported, evading the sanctions against North Korea and not reflected in the statistics."
"It can be done," he said.
