Lee Jae-myung's second term leadership visits former President Moon Jae-in's private residence...emphasis on unification = South Korean media
The newly elected leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea at the party convention on August 18 will meet with former President Moon Jae-in on the 22nd.
The meeting is expected to be a forum for the Democratic Party to reassure long-time party members and emphasize unity, with Lee Jae-myung, the new chairman of the Democratic Party, and Kim Min-Seok, Chung Jong-il, the vice-chairman of the Democratic Party.
The leadership, including Supreme Committee members Hyun Hee, Han Jun-ho, Kim Byung-ju, and Lee Eon-ju, visited Pyeongsan Village in Yangsan City, South Gyeongsang Province, on the same day and held a press conference to discuss the matter.
The Democratic Party will meet with the former president. Floor leader Park Chan-dae will not be attending. The Democratic Party leadership will pay a courtesy visit to former President Moon and is also scheduled to visit a bookstore run by the former president.
This is the first meeting between Lee and former President Moon in three months since the 15th anniversary memorial service for the late President Roh Moo-hyun in May.
The visit was also intended to show that the Democratic Party of Korea, which has strengthened the "Lee Jae-myung unipolar regime," is also considering expanding its "moderate" stance.
At the party convention on the 18th, former President Moon said in a celebration video, "Let's make this a party that is supported not only by our current supporters but by a wide range of generations and across the country equally."
"Let's resolutely eliminate the narrow-minded and exclusive forces that are blocking our expansion," he said. When the video of former President Moon was shown, some party members shouted abuse at him, saying, "Stop it!"
There has also been interest in the past relationships between the newly elected supreme council members and former President Moon. Jung Hyun was chairman of the Committee on Civil and Human Rights during the Moon Jae-in administration.
Even after the inauguration of the Yoon Seok-yeol administration, he continued to serve as the chairman of the Committee on Rights and Interests, a so-called “targeted audit.”
Kim is expected to be in charge of national defense issues in the leadership of Lee Jae-myung, who is running for president. Lee Eon-ju, also known as "Moon Jae-in's sniper," is also a senior official at the South Korean Supreme Court.
Lee, who has been sharply critical of former President Moon, said of the visit to Moon's private residence, "Former President Moon has already retired, and it is not right to attack a retired person."
"I would like to treat him as a retired senior politician," he said. Prior to the visit of former President Moon, the new leadership of the Democratic Party of Korea held a meeting with former President Roh Moo-hyun at Kimhae City in South Gyeongsang Province.
The plan is to visit the grave and pay a courtesy call on Mrs. Kwon Yang-sook.
