Man attacks stranger with baseball bat in elevator... ”Unhappy with reality” = South Korea
A man in his 20s was arrested by the police for following a woman he did not know in broad daylight and assaulting her in the elevator of her apartment building, swinging a baseball bat around.
According to police on the 21st, Gyeonggi Paju Police Station arrested a suspect in his 20s on suspicion of attempted murder.
On the afternoon of the 19th, suspect A followed Ms. B, a woman in her 40s, into the elevator at an apartment in Yadang-dong, Paju City.
After getting on the train, he is suspected of brandishing an aluminum baseball bat that was in his bag and assaulting the victim. Suspect A is not a resident of the apartment building, and was known to be loitering around the Yodo Station area.
The investigation revealed that A found B on her way home and followed her for about 300 meters. According to CCTV footage from inside the elevator, A followed B and entered the elevator.
After getting on the elevator, he stood in the corner as the door closed and suddenly took out a baseball bat from his bag and swung it at B. When B resisted and grabbed the bat, A continued to assault him with his fists.
When the elevator stopped on the fourth floor and the doors opened, suspect A appeared to be trying to chase Ms. B, who was trying to escape outside.
It was determined that suspect A and Ms. B did not know each other.
Police responded to a report from B, who had barely managed to escape, and arrested suspect A at the scene.
During police investigation, suspect A reportedly stated, "I committed the crime because I was dissatisfied with reality." The police applied for an arrest warrant for suspect A.
Ms. B told YTN, "I was suddenly attacked on my way home after shopping."
Mr. B suffered injuries to his head and arm and was treated at the hospital before being released.
