Hyundai Wia developing EV thermal management system to keep entire vehicle including battery at maximum temperature (Korea)
The EV4, a sedan-type electric vehicle (EV) that Kia Motors plans to launch in early 2025, will be equipped with a cooling water hub module developed and mass-produced by parts manufacturer Hyundai Wia.
The cooling water hub module is a component that helps to efficiently manage the heat of the EV battery and other drive system components and electrical equipment.
Hyundai Wia is the first Korean auto parts manufacturer to successfully develop such a system, and has been mass-producing it since May 2023.
It has been installed in the sports utility vehicle (SUV) "Kona Electric" and the large SUV "EV9". Hyundai Wia has advanced the cooling water hub module to connect the motor and battery
In addition, the company is also developing an ITMS (Integrated Thermal Management System) that will manage the heat inside the vehicle as a whole. Mass production will begin in the second half of 2025. The ITMS is a refrigerant system used for heating and cooling in automobiles.
The new system will integrate everything from the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system to the condenser, radiator and fan module (CRFM).
"By integrating these various products into one ITMS, we can increase the utilization rate of the interior of the vehicle while reducing the weight of the vehicle body, leading to an average parts improvement effect of more than 13.3%."
