"I think I really won't be able to breathe in five minutes." The final phone call between a woman in her 20s who died in a hotel fire in Bucheon and her mother has been made public.
According to Yonhap News, on the morning of the 23rd, the funeral home of Kim (28), who died in a hotel fire, was held at the funeral home of Seongmo Hospital in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province.
Kim, who had stayed at the hotel the previous day with the man she was engaged to marry, was found in a hotel room with the man in cardiac arrest and was rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.
Kim's mother was heartbroken when she heard her daughter's last voice on the phone. She had called her mother at 7:40 p.m. the previous day, and was greeted by a customer who was just across the street.
It had been just six minutes since the fire broke out in Room 810. Kim's mother said, "We got a call saying there was a fire and we were taking refuge in the bathroom in the guest room," and "Then, at 7:5 p.m.,
"I can't believe it," she said, sobbing. "There's so much smoke and no water coming out of the sprinklers on the ceiling," Kim said in a phone call with her mother.
In the end, he was unable to find a place to evacuate and was found in the bathroom of the guest room. The day before the accident was his father's birthday, and Kim had sent him a congratulatory message via KakaoTalk.
"I can't believe that I have to prepare for my daughter's funeral," her father said, before breaking down in tears. Other family members who arrived at the memorial service also shared their disbelief at Kim's sudden death.
They embraced each other and cried. Kim's mother regretted that her daughter's life could have been saved if the police and fire authorities had responded sooner.
He added, "My daughter told me exactly which floor the fire started on, but there was no ladder truck on the scene."
"The important thing wasn't how quickly the fire department arrived, but which floor they started their firefighting operations on," he said.
