Suga (real name: Min Yoongi, 31), a member of the popular idol group BTS, was summoned to the police for questioning 17 days after he was caught riding an electric scooter while drunk.
"I will make sure that this kind of thing doesn't happen again," he said. Suga appeared before reporters after completing his investigation at Yongsan Police Station in Seoul at around 10:53 pm on the 23rd. Suga said, "I want to thank many people for their honesty and sincerity.
I am truly sorry. I deeply regret and regret having disappointed everyone with my wrong actions," he said, adding, "I am truly sorry to the many people who loved me."
However, Suga left the scene without answering reporters' questions about why he did not immediately undergo police investigation after being caught drunk driving.
In response to subsequent questions from reporters such as "Is it true that you only had one beer even though your blood alcohol level was at the level of drunkenness?" and "What are your thoughts on the public opinion regarding secession?"
Suga arrived at Yongsan Police Station at around 7:45 pm that day and was questioned by the police, coming out at around 10:53 pm.
Before entering the police station, Suga said, "I sincerely regret having disappointed so many fans."
"We will be conducting a thorough investigation," he said. Police investigated the details of Suga's drunk driving incident that day. According to police, Suga was driving an electric scooter on the street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu on the night of the 6th.
Suga was caught drinking after falling off his scooter. At the time, his blood alcohol content was 0.227%, indicating that he was completely drunk.
If the blood alcohol concentration is 0.2% or more, the penalty is between 2 and 6 years in prison or a fine of between 10 and 30 million won.
Suspicions were also growing that SUGA and the management office were trying to downplay the incident. SUGA was riding an electric scooter while drunk and was not fined.
They issued a statement as if the payment incident was over. BIGHIT MUSIC, Suga's management office, also intensified the controversy by issuing a statement without fully understanding the circumstances of the investigation.
BIGHIT MUSIC used the term "kickboard" instead of scooter and said that he had driven "about 500m." They also said, "On his way home drunk, he was hit by a helmet.
The victim was using an electric scooter while wearing the protective gear and fell over while parking," he said. "No human lives or property were damaged in this incident."
However, the police clarified that Suga's device was an electric scooter, not a portable mobility device, and therefore subject to criminal punishment.
The explanation was that the electric scooter used by Suga did not meet the portable mobility standards, which state that it must not travel faster than 25 km/h and must weigh less than 30 kg.
A police official said, "We will investigate this case with the same standards as for other suspects."
