”People were clapping and dancing while jumping” - Witnesses of Bucheon fire ”angry” (South Korea)
At the time of the Bucheon fire in South Korea, which left 19 people dead and injured, eyewitnesses reported seeing people clapping and dancing amid the tense situation in which hotel guests were trying to jump out of windows.
In an interview published by Channel A on the 23rd, a citizen named A, who said he witnessed the entire incident, said, "From the angle I was looking at, I only saw smoke at first. It became full of smoke, and then the flames started.
"I don't know if the fire siren went off while the fire was going on or afterwards, but I remember hearing the fire siren," he said.
He also mentioned the moment guests jumped onto air mattresses outside the windows. However, Mr. A said, "Some people were dancing. They were clapping and laughing, and I thought that was a bit strange."
"Several men were involved," Mr. A said, expressing his anger, "There were many witnesses besides me. Someone died, so this is impossible."
Earlier, a fire broke out on the eighth floor of a nine-story hotel in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, at around 7:39 pm the previous day.
There were seven guests staying at the hotel, and fire authorities quickly responded and put out the blaze, but the toxic gases quickly spread, resulting in a tragic accident in which seven people were killed and 12 were injured, some seriously.
According to fire officials, the fire is believed to have started in the air conditioner in room 810 and spread due to sparks flying. Most of the guests were staying overnight.
The analysis said that toxic gas spread to the 8th and 9th floors where people were waiting, causing many casualties. It was also discovered that the hotel was completed in 2003 and was not subject to the installation of sprinklers.
In addition, two of the deceased, a man and a woman, tried to escape through a window and jumped onto an air mattress that had been set up, but the mattress fell on the first guest after they had jumped off.
The tow truck flipped over, killing both men.
