Yang Bu-soo, a member of the South Korean opposition Democratic Party and a member of the National Assembly's Administrative and Security Committee,
According to documents submitted to Rep. Nam by the National Police Agency, 59.8% (315 people) of the 527 victims of Deep Feik synthetic obscene acts reported to the police between 2021 and 2023
Most of the victims were in their teens. 32.1% were in their 20s, 5.3% were in their 30s, and 1.1% were in their 40s. The number of minors who were victims increased from 53 in 2021 to 81 in 2022,
The number of victims last year was 181, a 3.4-fold increase over the past two years. The proportion of teenagers among all victims has declined from 64.6% in 2021 to 52.9% in 2022, but last year it was 6
The proportion of minors among suspects charged with crimes related to DeepFei synthetic pornographic materials has also increased. Of these, the proportion of teenagers is 20.
This is expected to rise to 65.4% in 2021, 61.2% in 2022, and 75.8% in 2023, with the proportion of teenage suspects being 73.6% from January to July this year.
However, it was found that the number of perpetrators of false videos created through DeepFeiK was not as high as the number of victims.
The detection rate was 47.4% in 2021, 46.9% in 2022, 51.7% in 2023, and 49.5% in the first seven months of this year.
"Overseas social media sites are not cooperating with the investigation, and there are few replies to requests for information," he said. "Investigators have to monitor chat rooms one by one to find clues."
"Not only will it take longer, but it will also make investigations more difficult," said Rep. Yang. "Considering that most of DeepFei's victims are in their teens, we need to take action quickly," he said.
"In particular, since the number of arrests is low compared to the number of Deep Feik cases, it is urgent to establish legislation that provides the basis for more intensive investigations and stronger punishments," he said.
Police are promoting plans to improve deep-cover detection software and boost undercover investigations.
