In South Korea, the number of child abuse reports has been increasing over the past five years. The percentage of parents among abusers over the past five years has increased from 75.6% in 2019 to 75.7% in 2020.
Not only does this account for a significant proportion, but it continues to increase: 82.1% in 2019, 83.7% in 2021, 82.7% in 2022, and 85.9% in 2023.
On the other hand, there are cases of substitute caregivers, such as people living with the parents, teachers and staff of kindergartens, elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools, staff of cram schools and driving schools, nursery school teachers, and staff of facilities.
Child abuse accounts for 7.3% of the total (10,874 cases). The Ministry of Health and Welfare said, "For children under the age of two who are at risk of being abused, we will use key risk indicators, such as not receiving medical treatment at a medical institution, to detect cases early.
"We will also continue to check the location and safety of children who have been abused," he said. "As the proportion of parents among abusers is gradually increasing, we will explore more effective preventive public relations and education plans aimed at parents."
