Authorities including the Seoul Eastern Road Office and fire department announced that a sinkhole had been found in the middle of downtown Seoul at around noon on the 31st.
They announced on the same day that they had been dispatched to a report of a road collapse near the intersection of Line 9 in Gu, Eonju Station, and that they were inspecting the road after controlling it.
Authorities controlled two nearby lanes of traffic and conducted safety inspections at the scene, but no injuries were reported.
After conducting the first investigation, the relevant authorities believe that the ground has not yet subsided.
A company official said, "We found what appears to be a small sinkhole and investigated. We will conduct a detailed investigation together with water and sewerage agencies within the next week.
"We plan to conduct another investigation," he said. Meanwhile, a sinkhole and a subsidence of a road were discovered in the Seongsan-ro area of Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul.
On the 29th, a sinkhole measuring 6m wide, 4m long and 2.5m deep appeared, and at around 8:33 a.m. on the 30th, a 1.5m long, 3cm high sinkhole was discovered in a nearby area about 30m away from the sinkhole.
Land subsidence was discovered.
