Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun: ”A Republic of Korea where women can live conveniently, safely and happily”
Mayor Oh Sehun of Seoul, South Korea, attended the 2024 Seoul Women's Conference to commemorate Gender Equality Week and Women's Rights Day, held at the Seoul City Hall Multipurpose Hall at 2 p.m. on the 7th, and
The day was held to encourage individuals and groups who contributed to the advancement of gender rights, and to award those who made outstanding contributions. The day was held to commemorate the 1st September 1898, when the Korean government declared its intention to promote equal rights for men and women in terms of suffrage, occupational rights, and educational rights.
This is a legal day to commemorate the publication of the Women's Rights Declaration, the first women's human rights document, and is set on September 1 every year. The Seoul Metropolitan Council of Women's Organizations is made up of the city of Seoul and 34 women's organizations in Seoul.
The 2024 Seoul Women's Conference, jointly organized by the Korea Women's Organization and the Korea Women's Organization, was held under the slogan "Accompanying the Charming Special City! Seoul where everyone is happy," with over 600 people in attendance.
Mayor Oh Sehun presented the Seoul City Gender Equality Award and the Distinguished Service Award to commemorate Gender Equality Week and Women's Rights Day. The Seoul City Gender Equality Award is awarded to those who have contributed to the promotion of men's child-rearing activities.
The awards were given to six individuals and groups, including Kim Gi-tak, director of the Papa Childcare Culture Research Institute, who is a pioneer in the change of perception and gender equality.
The Grand Prize for the Gender Equality Award went to Kim Ki-tak, director of the Papa Childrearing Culture Research Institute, and the Grand Prize went to Outbox (a gender equality education teacher group) and Seo
The Excellence Award at the Euljiro Special City Pharmaceutical Affairs Association was awarded to △Jeon Hye Jin (Dong-A Ilbo), △Daon Book Cafe Small Library (local organization), △Nam YOUNG JI Ng (CEO of Neo Convergence), and others.
The "Women's Correspondence Merit Awardees" are △Kim Hyun-ja (Seoul City Women's Organizations Council), △Kim Hye-kyung (Seoul Special City Seocho-gu Nursing Society), △Kwon Won-sook (Seongbuk-gu Women's Organizations Council), △Park

A total of 10 people were awarded the prize, including △CHOI JIYEON (Seoul City Nursing Administration Society) △Han Bonghak (Korea Women's Leaders Union Seoul Branch).
The Seoul Metropolitan Government Women's Organizations Council, a co-host of the event, is making every effort to create a Seoul where women can feel happy and secure.
Mayor Oh, who will not only create a better future for Korea beyond Seoul, was presented with the "This Year's Best Leader Award for Leading Change and Innovation" by 1.2 million members.
Mayor Oh said, "Last year, Seoul's employment rate hit its highest figure since 2013, and the status of women and gender equality in Korean society are improving."
"We are grateful to the female leaders who have been working tirelessly and passionately," he said. "Seoul will continue to work to increase the female employment rate and create an environment where people can live their daily lives with peace of mind.
"We will take the lead on the front lines to create a Korea that is more convenient, safer and happier for women," he added.
