South Korea's Coupang files administrative lawsuit against Japan Fair Trade Commission, seeking cancellation of fine
South Korea's largest e-commerce company, Coupang, has taken legal action against the Fair Trade Commission (FTC) for the serious sanctions it imposed on the company.
The FTC imposed a fine of 1,000,000 won (approximately 17 billion yen), but Coupang protested the decision and filed an administrative lawsuit.
The company filed a lawsuit against the FTC in the Seoul High Court, seeking the cancellation of the correction order and the order to pay a surcharge.
The decision stated that Coupang had misled consumers into believing that its private label (PB) products were superior through the manipulation of search algorithms and reviews by its employees.
The lawsuit states that the amount of the fine imposed on Coupang was 162.8 billion won, the largest amount ever imposed on the Korean distribution industry.
