According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, China's total merchandise trade imports and exports from January to August this year was 28.58 trillion former (about 575 trillion yen),
This was a 6% increase compared to the same period last year. Of this, exports increased by 6.9% to 16.45 trillion former (approximately 331 trillion yen), and imports increased by 4.7% to 12.13 trillion former (approximately 244 trillion yen).
By trade partner country, exports and imports with countries co-constructing the "One Belt, One Road" increased by 7% to 13.48 trillion former (about 271 trillion yen). Of this, exports and imports with ASEAN increased by 10%.
The total was 4.5 trillion former (approximately 90.5 trillion yen), accounting for 15.7% of the total. Other countries with increases were the European Union (EU) with a 1.1% increase, the United States with a 4.4% increase, and South Korea with an 8% increase.
During the same period, the number of foreign trade companies with export and import records increased by 8.8% to 630,000 companies, of which private enterprises accounted for more than 50%. The amount of exports and imports by private enterprises increased by 10.5% to 15 trillion yen.
The total amount of exports and imports by foreign companies increased by 1.5% to 8.4 trillion former (approximately 16.9 billion yen).
