“電動スクーターを飲酒運転”SUGA(BTS(防弾少年団))、正式裁判を免れるか?検察がら罰金1,500万ウォンの略式起訴
Will BTS' SUGA, who was caught ”drunk driving an electric scooter,” be able to avoid a formal trial? Prosecutors decide on summary indictment with a fine of 15 million won
Suga of the group BTS, who was found to be driving an electric scooter after drinking alcohol, was summarily indicted without a formal trial and fined 15 million won (approximately 1.58 million yen).
According to legal circles on the 11th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor: Joo Hye-yoon) filed a summary indictment against Suga on suspicion of drunk driving, with a fine of 15 million won.
Summary indictment is when the prosecution judges that the charges are relatively minor, and instead of handing the case over to a formal trial, they hold a written hearing and ask the court to issue a summary order for fines, penalties, confiscation, etc.
If the parties or the court do not express their intention to formally bring a case to trial, the sentence will be finalized without a trial.
The prosecution has requested the court to impose a summary order of 15 million won in fines on Suga. He is currently serving social service.
Suga, who is currently working as a police officer, is accused of driving an electric scooter after drinking alcohol on the road and sidewalk in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul on the night of the 6th of last month.
Suga was found collapsed by police after being caught trolling. His blood alcohol content was 0.227%, far above the license revocation threshold (0.08%).
The electric scooter that Suga drove is classified as a motorized bicycle, not a personal transportation device, under the Road Traffic Act, and is subject to the same legal punishment for drunk driving as automobiles.
Suga appeared at the police station on the 23rd of last month and admitted to the drunk driving charges after a three-hour investigation. During the police investigation, Suga said in front of reporters, "I was so angry at the many fans who were asking me to do this.
He bowed his head and apologized, saying, "I sincerely regret having caused disappointment to you and many others." The police did not conduct any further investigation, and a week later, they indicted Suga on charges of drunk driving under the Road Traffic Act.
Since the prosecution has summarily indicted Suga, if Suga or the court do not request a formal trial, the fine is expected to be finalized.
