SUGA (BTS) requested to be punished for appearing on KBS program

Suga, a member of the Korean boy group BTS, is facing sanctions against him from appearing on KBS programs due to his past drunk driving incident.
On the 23rd of this month, a petition titled "Request for sanctions against Suga regarding his Drunk Driving fine" was posted on the KBS viewer request board.
The petitioner called on KBS, as a public broadcaster, to convene a broadcast appearance regulation review committee to deliberate on Suga's program appearances and to take fair action based on the results.
On August 6, 2024, while serving his time as a community service officer, Suga was arrested for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated. Suga's blood alcohol level exceeded the license revocation standard.
The company recorded a concentration of 15 million won (approximately 1.5 million yen) in the chemicals it produced, and on September 27 of the same year, a summary order was issued and a fine of 15 million won (approximately 1.5 million yen) was imposed.
The petitioner said, "Drunk driving is a serious criminal act that can cause serious harm to others.
"If Suga, a public figure, were to appear on the show, there is a risk that social vigilance would be weakened," he said. "Even though the fine has already been finalized, KBS is saying that 'the investigation results have not been released.'
"For this reason, they did not even conduct a review process," and called for the swift convening of a program appearance regulation review committee. KBS will take measures according to its own standards, such as "when illegal or immoral acts cause social controversy."
In the past, actor Kwak Do Won, the late Kim Sae Ron, and singer Kim Ho Jun, who caused controversy with Drunk Driving, have been banned from KBS programs for a certain period of time.
Meanwhile, on the 21st of this month, with SUGA being discharged, all members of "BTS" have completed their military service, and attention is focused on the possibility of returning as a complete group.
The petition calling for sanctions against Suga from appearing on TV this time is expected to have a significant impact on Suga's future TV appearances and the recovery of his image.
