Han JUNHO, chairman of the Prosecutor's Dictatorship Countermeasures Committee, said in his opening remarks at the first meeting of the National Assembly that day, "In the autobiography of former President Kim Dae-jung,
"The biggest problem in this country is the prosecution. There is a saying that I was worried that the Republic of Korea would turn into a prosecutorial republic," he said. "The person who was the head of the prosecution became president and joined the opposition party," Han said.
"The government continues to crack down on the opposition party leader. It is unseemly to see them trying to destroy the leader of the opposition party," he said. "They are abusing their investigative and prosecution powers to fabricate the case against Chairman Lee and are resorting to excessive unreasonable prosecutions.
"The more the trial progresses, the more Lee's innocence becomes clear," he said. He added, "We will not be swayed by the prosecution's manipulations. We will absolutely liquidate the political prosecution. We will create a prosecution that goes beyond the Republic of Prosecutors.
Vice Chairman Kim Young Min said, "The term dictatorship of the prosecution has become a very commonly used term recently. It is a term that is used by certain individuals and groups.
"To take control of the national system, make decisions, and not take responsibility is dictatorship," Kim said. "Right now, the prosecutors' office is playing that role in this administration.
"The People's Power (the ruling party) is in the seat of the president. The prosecution is playing a role in steering political issues in the direction the president wants," he said.
He also said, "The forces that say it is not a prosecutorial dictatorship are the forces that accompany a dictatorship.
"We have started the committee to end the trial. We will do our best," said Kim Young-jin, chairman of the Committee for Countermeasures against Political Oppression by the Former Administration. "We will continue to investigate and investigate the cases against former President Moon Jae-in, Chairman Lee, and their families.
"We are fighting against the prosecutorial dictatorship of the Yoon Seok-youl government with the same resolve we used to fight against military governments in the past to achieve democratization," he said.
