Jeju Airport paralyzed for 48 minutes before mid-autumn celebration: ”Object suspected to be a drone” confirmed (South Korea)
Ahead of the mid-autumn celebration (Chuseok) holiday in South Korea, an object believed to be a drone appeared, paralyzing Jeju Airport for nearly an hour.
According to the Korea Airports Corporation (Jeju Airport) on the 14th, there were 48 minutes of flights departing and arriving at Jeju Airport between 9:17 pm and 10:05 pm the previous day.
Flights were suspended after security personnel patrolling the perimeter of Jeju Airport at the time spotted what appeared to be a drone flying with their naked eyes.
The drone was not found over the main runway, but near the northern end of the auxiliary runway (north-south runway). After that, Jeju Airport checked the area around the airport, but could not find the drone and resumed operations.
Flight operations were disrupted, causing great inconvenience to people returning home and tourists. Some departure flights were delayed by nearly two hours, and some flights bound for Jeju were delayed by 10 hours.
Some flights scheduled to fly to Gimpo Airport, where the curfew begins at 11 p.m., ended up being unable to land and had to circle nearby.
The plane landed at Incheon Airport.
