South Korea: Cram school teacher who secretly filmed female junior high school students given suspended prison sentence

A cram school teacher who was caught taking pictures of a student he taught in the bathroom for six months was given a suspended sentence. According to the legal community, the Seoul Southern District Court on the 16th issued a suspended sentence for the sexual protection of children and adolescents.
Defendant A, who was indicted on suspicion of violating the law (producing and distributing sexual exploitative material, etc.), was sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for three years. In addition, he was ordered to perform 80 hours of community service and complete 40 hours of sexual violence treatment courses.
The court also ordered that he be banned from taking classes at schools for children, adolescents, and people with disabilities for five years.
Defendant A is accused of secretly photographing student B (15) who was in the middle of a school day. Defendant A entered a storage room connected to the window of the women's restroom and tried to photograph B, but fortunately B was able to get off her cell phone and take pictures.
Defendant A voluntarily accompanied the police who were called in after receiving the report, was questioned, admitted to the charges, and was immediately fired from the cram school.
The court ruled that the defendant "educated and guided the students to develop good character.
"Despite his responsibility to protect students from sexual violence and sexual abuse, he committed this crime against a victim whom he had directly supervised for six months," the report said.
He continued, "However, he admitted to the crime and regretted it, and the crime was unsuccessful. He has dependents, and the victim expressed a desire not to be punished.
"I decided on the sentence after taking into consideration various factors," he said, explaining the reasons for the sentence.
