The number of foreign visitors to Japan in August reached 2,933,000, a 36% increase compared to the same month last year.
By country (region), visitors from South Korea increased 7.6% year-on-year to 610,000.
With 2,100 visitors, Japan was second only to China, which recorded 745,800. At one time, South Korea held the top spot in terms of the number of foreign visitors to Japan, but since July of this year, China has become the country with the most visitors.
Regarding this increase, the JNTO explained that "due to factors such as the easing of travel restrictions in China and an increase in the number of air routes, the number of tourists from China increased by 104.8% compared to the same month last year."
