Prime Minister Han said in his congratulatory speech at the 69th Republic of Korea Academy Awards ceremony held at the Republic of Korea Academy in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul that day,
"We are at a major turning point in order to open up a new future," he said. "We are responding to multiple global crises and revolutionary cutting-edge technologies such as AI and robots.
"We must turn this challenging era into an opportunity for national development. The government will create an environment where students can focus on challenging and innovative research and provide full support to nurture the next generation of researchers," he said.
At the awards ceremony, six people were awarded, including Nam Moon-hyun, professor emeritus at Konkuk University, who has focused on research into traditional science and technology, such as recreating the Joseon dynasty's "jigyeok-ro" ritual.
From 1955 to the present, 291 people have received the Korea Academy Prize.
