Heavy rains across the country in September caused over 100 cases of flooding of roads and homes, forcing over 1,500 people to evacuate in seven cities and provinces, including Gyeongbuk and Cheongnam.
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters' heavy rain response report as of 11 p.m. on the 21st, people who had evacuated were from Busan, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gyeongbuk, and Gyeonggi.
The number of people in this group is 1,501, representing 1,014 generations, in seven cities and provinces, including Gyeongnam, Jeolla, and Jeollabuk, and 46 cities, counties, and districts. Of these, 682 people in the 455 generation are unable to return home.
Of these, 595 people from the 405 generation are staying in temporary facilities, while the rest are staying at relatives' houses, community centers, private lodgings, etc. The recent heavy rains caused flooding in both public and private facilities.
Damage included 107 cases of flooding on roads, 21 cases of landslides, 1 collapsed retaining wall, and 33 other cases. In addition, a road collapsed in Sasang-gu, Busan, and repair work is currently underway and the cause is being investigated.
Damage to private facilities included 170 flooded homes, 26 flooded shops, 3 flooded factories, 1 flooded hospital, 1 flooded traditional market, 2 flooded vehicles, and 28 other flooded areas. In addition, 4,000 acres of farmland, including rice paddies and fields, were flooded.
116 hectares were flooded. Firefighters rescued 44 people, performed 408 drainage support operations, and performed 3,420 safety measures, but no casualties have been confirmed to date.
Heavy rains caused restrictions on roads, national parks, campgrounds, etc. 55 flights and 77 passenger ship flights were canceled due to storm warnings and worsening weather conditions.
As all heavy rain warnings were lifted at 9:30 p.m., the Central Disaster Safety Response Headquarters, which had been activated by the Ministry of Public Administration and Safety, was dissolved.
The heavy rain danger warning was also lowered from "borderline" to "caution." The Central Disaster Safety Response Headquarters plans to launch an all-out response, including a rapid assessment of the damage situation and emergency restoration.
