A man in his 50s was arrested after it was revealed that he had killed a woman he lived with 16 years ago and hid the body on the balcony. It was confirmed that the man was also using illegal drugs at the time of his arrest.
On the 23rd, Geoje Police Station in Gyeongnam announced that they had arrested a man in his 50s, B, on suspicion of murdering his cohabiting woman A and concealing the body.
Suspect B, who had been living with A since 2004, allegedly assaulted A (at the time of the incident) at the officetel (a combined residence and office) in Geoje where they were living together on or around October 10, 2008.
Suspect B is suspected of getting into a fight with A (in his 30s at the time) and assaulting A on the head and face with a blunt object, resulting in the death of A. Suspect B put A's body in a travel bag and placed it on a balcony outside the residence.
It was confirmed that the body had been hidden by piling up bricks and cementing it. Suspect B continued to live in this place until 2016, after which he moved out, leaving the body behind.
Suspect B's crime came to light last month when a suitcase containing the body was discovered while breaking up a concrete structure to carry out water leakage repairs.
Police confirmed through an autopsy that she died from blunt force trauma to the head. They also confirmed that A had been living at the address since 2006 and that she had been reported missing around 2011.
Police identified B as a suspect and arrested him at his residence in Yangsan on the 19th of this month. Suspect B admitted to the crime during police investigation.
