South Korea's KT and SK Broadband suffer the longest and longest communications outage in the past five years

Starting at around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, a routing error caused problems for KT's wired and wireless Internet services for over an hour.
The next major communication outage was also caused by KT. On August 10, 2024, a delay in upgrading telephone line software caused an outage in Seoul and Chungcheong Province.
Telephone services were cut in some parts of the country, including Chungcheong Province, affecting 123,000 lines.
The longest communication outage occurred on September 5, 2023, at the Dongbuk urban railway in Tohoku.
The incident occurred when an SK Broadband fiber optic cable was cut during tunnel construction for the line. As a result, 1,553 lines were down for 13 hours and 19 minutes in some areas of Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
The next longest outage was when the SK Broadband cable was cut during road construction, causing a 10 hour and 20 minute outage on the 4813th line in the Suwon area.
